What advantage does the style of login interface where username and password are entered on separate pages – have over the style where both are entered and validated together?

The former type is used by Google and Microsoft accounts and DisneyPlus, to name a few, and seems to be what is gradually being moved towards. The latter type is used by Twitter, Discord and the BBC, among others, and feels like an “older” style.

Isn’t it worse for privacy if someone can see that a username is valid without knowing a password?
