Side mouse buttons assigned by default to Ctrl-C and Ctrl-V

I just started a fresh install of Ubuntu on a dual-boot system with Windows 10 the other OS.

I have a Logitech mouse, and hitting the two side buttons respectively returns the key combination CtrlC and CtrlV. I didn’t configure it this way, not even on my main Windows OS.

I want the keys to just be miscellaneous mouse buttons that I can remap later using the xbindkeys and xvkbd packages.

Using the xbindkeys-config command and remapping from that GUI doesn’t seem to be doing any remapping. The buttons still behave the same way.

I’d appreciate some guidance!
