Set Reminder Email based on Date in Column for SharePoint List

I am not an expert. All I would like to do is set an email reminder based on a date in a column on a SharePoint List. For example, we have a “Expiration Date” for a list item. We would like to be able to create a reminder (either via an email or as an Outlook reminder) 5 or 10 days before the date in the column. I have tried following some MS Docs with no success. Most of them refer to a “Set a Reminder” function which does not exist in our SharePoint. Is there an easy way to do this? Does anyone else feel like we are regressing as technology gets more advanced the tools are designed to be more complicated than they should be?
