Materials to Study How To Get Information INTO A Database?

I know this is going to be an odd question. Databases are full of data, and it gets there in many different ways. Sometimes a worker manually enters it into an online form. Other times it is hacked together from a bunch of different Excel sheets and imported. In a high tech factory, a machine might add hundreds of entries an hour into a database using metadata.

Are there materials or books out there that focus on the methods of how to actually get data into a database in the first place? I would like to study up on this to learn new methods for my own projects.

EXAMPLES OF WHAT I MEAN

• Scanning a physical form, running an OCR tool, and importing the responses automatically into the database after scanning • Scanning a QR code or bar code to return information about a product from a database
